Quorum AI CEO Noah Schwartz to Speak at the O'Reilly Artificial Intelligence Conference
Presentation to Focus on Latest Advances in Distributed and Cooperative AI Systems
April 15, 2018
SAN FRANCISCO – Quorum AI CEO Noah Schwartz will deliver a technical talk at the O’Reilly Artificial Intelligence Conference, to take place in San Francisco on September 7, 2018. The O’Reilly AI Conference brings together business leaders, AI experts, and innovators to explore the most promising applied AI developments and how to implement and succeed with AI technologies.
Schwartz’s presentation is titled “The Future of AI is Distributed: Peer-to-Peer Learning and Multi-Agent AI at the Edge.” The talk will be directed at AI developers, researchers, and technologists, as well as tech-savvy CTOs who are interested in seeing use cases and demonstrations in federated learning and AI edge computing.
“Current AI methods do not transfer well to small, portable systems such as smartphones or IoT devices,” said Schwartz. “If we want AI features on these systems, we often have to chain the device to cloud-based services, forcing us to compromise privacy, speed, and security. In this talk, I will explore new approaches that enable AI to live and run on edge devices, opening the door to new applications that are more flexible and more powerful than what we see AI doing today.”
Topics to be discussed will include:
• Limitations of current AI methods and the need to build toward distributed solutions
• Tradeoffs when designing distributed AI systems
• Demonstrations of federated and peer-to-peer learning using the Quorum AI Framework.
Prior to founding Quorum AI, Schwartz spent 12 years in academic research, most recently at Northwestern University as the Assistant Chair of Neurobiology. Schwartz also served as Senior Data Scientist at Lumos Labs, creators of the popular Lumosity brain training app. During his time in academia, Schwartz’s work focused on information processing in the brain and he has translated his research into products in augmented reality, sensor fusion, brain-computer interfaces, computer vision, and embedded robotics control systems.
